I saw on television earlier the oath taking of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV in Caloocan, who was joined by Senator Rodolfo Biazon and other local politicians. In the midst of the celebration, Trillanes did not waste time in saying what he thought of Senatorial aspirant Miguel Zubiri. “I wouldn’t want a cheat to join me in the Senate”, Trillanes calmly said to ANC anchor Pinky Webb. “I believe Congressman Zubiri knows deep in his heart that he benefited from cheating. If he is decent enough, he wouldn’t accept, because that is not something you want your kids to emulate.”

WRESTLING WITH ‘ROID RAGE’

Like most guys my age, I grew up watching Hulk Hogan battle the likes of the Iron Sheik, King Kong Bundy and of course, Andre the Giant. Who could forget Wrestlemania III when Hulk Hogan power lifted the 520 pound Andre on his way to victory?

But as time went on and the reality that it all was fake and fabricated sank in, I lost interest. Except, that is, on those few instances when the wrestling divas were on and I had the television all by my lonesome. And of course, during those not so few occasions when tragedy strikes the wrestling world, as it did last Monday, June 25, when police discovered the bodies of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and son Daniel in their Fayetteville, Georgia home.

SMS, LIES AND THE INTERNET

There was this one time when my wife and I were watching the Discovery show, “Crime Night” and it featured the story of a man who killed his wife after she discovered that he was having multiple extramarital affairs. How did the wife find out? She read his emails.

Grabbing the opportunity, I turned to my wife and joked, “So you see what happens when you mess with my emails?” I got a scowl in return.

Stories of wives or girlfriends finding out that they are not the only objects of affection by reading their partner’s emails and text messages are now commonplace. When we see someone with more than one cellphone, we wink and say, “One’s for official business, the other’s for monkey business.”
