LOST WITHOUT LOST

13 06 2007

I just finished watching the Season 3 finale of the TV hit series LOST. And man oh man, it ends with more questions than answers.

The myriad twists and turns that have been the hallmark of this great show has made my wife and myself avid followers. And episode 22 part 2 certainly did not disappoint. Instead of flashbacks, it went fast forward, Jack finally said the “L” word to Kate, Ben is taken prison (again!) by the others’ others, rescue is on the way, John rises from (among) the dead and Charlie died.

I’m still holding out for the miraculous resurrection of Charlie in season 4 but then again, it is a rule of thumb for every season about to end to have at least one major character die. It happened in Ghost Whisperer (Best Friend), Supernatural (Father), Prison Break (Girlfriend) and Heroes (The Painter). But still, I wouldn’t put it past the writers of LOST to arrange a Charlie comeback.

I’ve already written about the impact of fathers in our lives and I noticed that most of the characters in LOST dealt with problems with their fathers which led to their, well, being lost, literally, mentally and emotionally.

Jack had an alcoholic father, Kate killed his real father because he abused her and was rejected by her step father when she visited him, Sawyer lost his father at an early age due to suicide but not before killing his mother, Hurley had an absentee father who reappeared when he won the lottery, Claire never knew her father (who was also Jack’s which makes them brother and sister), Sun had a domineering father, Walt had to deal with an overprotective father and Ben killed his father after enduring years of being blamed for his mother’s death.

But my hands down choice for the character who was most messed up because of his father is John. John was tricked by his father to donate a kidney and was paralyzed from the waist down when his father pushed him from an eight floor window. Whew! Good thing Sawyer was around to take care of that problem.

From the pilot episode to this latest installment, LOST never failed to leave me and my wife breathless with anticipation and asking for more. But with the start of season 4 slated for January 2008, holding our collective breaths can be a challenge. Oh well, prison break season 3 is just around the corner (August 29). But while prison break is also a great series, my wife and I will be lost without lost. That is, until January next year.
